Together Everyone Achieves More
Croeso i Flwyddyn 1!
Keep your eyes peeled for exciting ways to support your children in their learning.
Beth dym ni'n dysgu? / What are we learning about?
Our learning context in Summer 2 2017 is 'Growing things'
This project has a science focus and teaches the children about
the life cycle of plants, the conditions needed for growth
and the names of parts of plants. At the heart of this project
children will learn how to write simple reports and develop
additional skills in sentence writing, labelling and recording
ideas and first hand experiences.
The children will apply their skills and
understanding by developing an area of the school grounds.
In this project the children will learn:
• The names of the parts of plants and how they grow.
• How different plants need different places to grow in
different parts of the world.
• How to carry out fair tests and make accurate measurements.
• How to find information from different sources.
• How to write a report and present information, including
illustrations and photographs.
• How artists draw plants, how plants are represented in art
and how to make observational drawings of plants.
• How to collaborate together in a team.
P.E will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
We start our day with Letters and Sounds Time!
We practise saying, hearing and using our sounds within words and sentences. Here are some useful games to help you practise at home.

How Can I Help at Home? / Sut Allaf Helpu Adref?
It is essential that you read with your child on a daily basis. We would encourage you to practise reading their key words along with their reading books.
Please ensure that these are brought to school, along with your child's reading diary everyday. As well as reading key word cards and books at home.
It is also important that you ask questions about the texts that are being read in order to develop their comprehension skills.
Spellings are assessed on a Monday morning. We are also requesting that these are practised throughout the week in preparation for Spelling Time.
It would be beneficial for your children to practise writing these words within full sentences to enhance their writing skills. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and finish with a full stop.
Physical movement time is on a Tuesday and Friday. Full P.E. kit is expected to be brought to school every Monday morning and will then be returned each Friday for washing.
Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a full bottle each day.
We are promoting healthy eating here at All Saints' and therefore encourage a healthy snack to be brought to school for playtime. Fruit can be purchased from the hall on a daily basis, at the cost of 25p per day.
Homework is a vital part of our learning in Year One. All children have now been given a blue homework book which will go home every fortnight on a Tuesday. We ask that the oracy discussion topic is completed during this time and and comments recorded on the slip provided. The numeracy activity is also to be completed within this two week period. We look forward to discussing our school and home learning together.
